"But what if machines— AI for cognitive tasks and AI plus advanced robots for physical tasks—can perform every task a human can, at least as cheaply? While this outcome is by no means guaranteed in the next several decades, a number of observers expect that it will occur (Amodei 2024; Aschenbrenner 2024; Brynjolfsson, Korinek, and Agrawal 2025; Kokotajlo et al. 2025).
